Gestational age specific birth weight curve for Asian Indian Newborns

Abstract

The number of newborns of the Asian Indian (AI) origin have increased in last decade to over 40,000 per year in the US, according to the NCHS. In order to accurately assess the effects of the gestational pathologies such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, etc, on the fetus there needs to be a gestational age (GA) specific birth weight (BWT) curve of the normal AI babies. For example, an AI large for gestation (LGA) may never meet the birth weight criteria established by curves for the majority of the babies born in the US. It is well known in the literature that newborns of AI origin weigh less than the white and black ethnicities but the percentile curve is lacking. The objective of this study is to create a GA specific BWT curve for AI newborns and compare it to the non-hispanic white (NHW) babies
