Abstract
Much of the academic research world remains available only to institutions that are able to pay for subscriptions to specific tools and resources. However, over the last few years, vendors, funders, and other organizations have developed a number of free and low-cost tools targeted to a range of stakeholders. These tools and resources help support users inside and beyond institutions to discover, understand and use academic research. This panel will highlight a number of favorite free and low-cost tools. Panelists will offer diverse perspectives, including best practices, real-life examples, and information on how you can use the tools to support your patrons as they discover, understand and use academic research. Resources to be presented include: Altmetric, ORCID, Mendeley, Google Scholar, Figshare, Overleaf, iCite, RePORTER, and more. Finally, the panel will publish an engaging poster with their top tips, and will make these posters available to attendees at their panel.Participants:Mike Taylor, Head of Metrics Development, Digital Science, William Gunn, Director of Scholarly Communications, Mendeley, Karen Gutzman, Impact and Evaluation Librarian, Galter Health Sciences Library, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Moderator:Kristi Homes, Director, Galter Health Sciences Library, Director of Evaluation, Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences InstituteOther
